The Hamilton Mill Branch opened on May 8, 2010 as Gwinnett's 15th branch and the first public library in Georgia to earn LEED Gold certification. The $7.4-million, 20,000-square-foot building — funded by SPLOST and a $2-million state grant — features bamboo flooring, recycled tire rubber in the children's area, a large northern glass wall for daylighting and air-quality sensors, achieving about 25% energy savings over standard construction.
