📖 About Forsyth County Public Library — Cumming Library

The Forsyth County Public Library traces its origins to the 1920s, when a local resident known as 'Aunt Laura' Hockenhull shared her personal book collection with neighbours — and to 1938, when a formal public library was established through the Works Progress Administration with 600 volumes. The Forsyth Branch officially opened in 1959, and after a $2.1 million bond referendum and a $2 million state grant, a new main library building opened in July 1992. The system became fully independent on July 1, 1996, and has expanded to five branches: the flagship Cumming Library, Sharon Forks (2000), Hampton Park (2010), Post Road (2013) and Denmark (2025). Today the collection numbers over 440,000 items, including an extensive digital library. A bookmobile launched in November 2020 extends service to underserved areas of the county. The Cumming Library serves as headquarters and offers the system's broadest range of programs and resources.
