📖 About East Morgan County Library

The library's story begins in 1915 when Andrew Carnegie granted the City of Brush $6,000 to construct a dedicated facility, establishing one of the smallest Carnegie libraries on the eastern Colorado plains. For decades it operated as a municipal branch with limited hours. In 1981, community members voted to create the East Morgan County Library District — supported by a 1.5-mil property-tax levy — giving the library financial independence and a mandate to serve the broader region. A major expansion broke ground in October 1983 and was dedicated on November 18, 1984, more than doubling the building's footprint and enabling extended evening hours. Today the district serves Brush and surrounding East Morgan County communities with in-person collections, a robust digital catalog, home delivery, and youth-to-adult programming rooted in the agricultural rhythms of the Fort Morgan micropolitan area.
