Otay Mesa-Nestor Library first opened in 1986 to serve the rapidly growing communities of Otay Mesa and Nestor in San Diego's far south. Recognizing the branch's central role in this binational neighborhood, the city invested $4.6 million in a major expansion and renovation that reopened in 2006, transforming the facility into a 15,000-square-foot anchor institution. The expanded branch features a large community room that seats up to 140 people, a seminar room for 42, reading alcoves for quiet study, a peaceful outdoor space, and a dedicated computer lab. Its collections include strong Spanish-language holdings and materials in other languages reflecting the area's diverse residents, many of whom are recent immigrants or commuters crossing between Tijuana and San Diego. Branch manager Coco Rios Fidel and staff serve patrons in both English and Spanish.
