📖 About Logan Heights Library
Logan Heights Library has served the communities of Logan Heights, Sherman Heights, Barrio Logan, and Stockton since January 1915 — when neighborhood residents raised funds to rent a storefront on 28th Street, making it San Diego's fourth branch library. A purpose-built 3,967-square-foot building on Logan Avenue opened in 1927 (cost: $17,840) and stood for over 80 years before the current facility replaced it. The current two-story, 25,000-square-foot building designed by Martinez + Cutri Corp opened December 11, 2009, at a cost of $13.7 million funded in part by a $5.25 million state grant. Built on a renewable $1-per-year lease with San Diego Unified School District and sited adjacent to Memorial Charter Middle School and King/Chavez Academy of Excellence, the library integrates school and public services under one roof. Its collection of approximately 73,000 items includes one of the largest Spanish-language holdings in the SDPL system, reflecting a neighborhood that has been predominantly Latino since Mexican Revolution refugees arrived in force after 1910.
