📖 About Main Library — Yuma County Library District

Yuma County Library District was founded in 1921 when a Carnegie-funded library opened in Sunset Park — Yuma's first public library, seating 20 patrons with 1,053 volumes. That building, thoroughly renovated in 2009 with a $4.2 million investment, now operates as the Heritage Branch Library in downtown Yuma. The modern Main Library at 2951 S. 21st Dr. itself opened May 21, 2009, funded by a $53.7 million voter-approved library bond program passed in 2005; at 80,000 square feet, it is among the largest public library buildings in Arizona. The district celebrated its centennial in 2021, marking 100 years of continuous service to Yuma County, now reaching approximately 213,787 residents across six branches. The Main Library is notable for amenities that go well beyond traditional collections: a Gaming Lab, a Media Studio Room for content creation, study rooms, meeting spaces, and the Act One Culture Pass program that gives cardholders free admission to 21 arts and cultural venues across Arizona — including the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Reid Park Zoo, and Desert Botanical Garden.
