The Southeast Arkansas Regional Library was established in 1947 as a regional system headquartered in Monticello, processing nearly 7,500 books in its first six weeks. By 1957 the system was innovative enough to commission a custom-designed bookmobile tall enough to stand up inside, replacing an earlier panel truck. Today the Monticello Branch operates from a 20,000-square-foot facility at 114 W. Jefferson Avenue that also houses the regional administrative offices. The system grew steadily — Bradley County joined in 1984, adding the Warren and Hermitage branches, and Chicot County rejoined in 1995, bringing in Lake Village, Eudora, and Dermott. With nine branches spanning five counties and access to over 130,000 items through resource-sharing, the regional system remains Drew County's essential center for learning, research, and community connection. Public computers, printing, and meeting room reservations are available at the Monticello Branch.
