📖 About Oneonta Public Library
Oneonta Public Library traces its roots to a 1948 Oneonta Garden Club Council project that formally opened on January 16, 1949, in a former pump house on Jefferson Avenue with just 200 books. After several moves — including a long stay in the Civic Center Auditorium — the library found its permanent home on June 1, 1998, in a renovated 8,000-square-foot building funded by a $540,000 community fundraising campaign. That commitment to excellence earned the library the Alabama Library Association Standards Award in 2004 and the prestigious Blue Ribbon Standards Award in 2007, a distinction held by only ten Alabama public libraries at that time. Today the collection spans traditional print and digital resources, and modern amenities include a 3D printer, a mobile charging station, and an interactive conference-room display that set Oneonta apart from libraries twice its size. Staff of seven serve Blount County residents alongside the Biblionix-powered online catalog and free AVL statewide digital access.
