Founded in 1923 by Josie S. Lasseter, the Enterprise Public Library has grown from a small collection in a historic courthouse to a vibrant community hub in the Boll Weevil Capital — serving more than 86,000 visitors a year from a former bank building in downtown Enterprise.

📖 About Enterprise Public Library
The Enterprise Public Library has served Coffee and Dale County residents since its founding in 1923, when Josie S. Lasseter established the library in Enterprise's original courthouse. After a courthouse fire in 1924, the collection moved to the old Enterprise Banking Company building, then to the old city hall in 1936. In 1972 the library was dedicated in a former post office building, and it later relocated to the historic First Alabama Bank building in downtown Enterprise — the location it occupies today at 101 East Grubbs Street. Enterprise itself is famous for the Boll Weevil Monument, erected in tribute to the insect pest that devastated local cotton crops in 1915 and forced farmers to diversify into peanuts — making Coffee County the nation's leading peanut producer within two years. The library holds more than 90,000 books and materials, operates 20 public computers and 8 laptops, offers a bookmobile for community outreach, and draws over 86,000 visitors annually.
