Troy Public Library has served Pike County residents since 1959 and moved into its current purpose-built home on Walnut Street — on the site of the former Troy High School — when the 24,000-square-foot building opened on July 12, 2012. Situated between Troy University's main campus and the historic Downtown Square, the library holds more than 50,000 items and circulates nearly 200,000 each year. Its upper floor houses the Karen C. Bullard Genealogical Research Center, one of the deepest local-history collections in southeast Alabama, with over 5,000 genealogy volumes, microfilm newspapers, census and probate records, and Ancestry.com Deluxe Edition available free at library computers. The building also features soundproofed study rooms, a computer lab, a fairytale-themed children's department with a puppet theater, and dedicated teen spaces.
