📖 About Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library
The Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library serves roughly 8,000 residents across the Brundidge service area in Pike County. A reading circle organized by community members in 1900 was the seed; a formal library opened in City Hall's basement in 1940 under librarian Emma Nell Maloy. In 1959 the official public library moved into the First National Bank building, with Mary Ellen Bryant as first librarian. By 1974 the collection had relocated to a historic 1897 home — the Tupper Lightfoot house — and in 1989 the library was formally named in the house's honor. A purpose-built addition opened in 2012, and a 2021 Lowe's 100Hometown grant funded a connector joining both structures into one facility. In 2019 the library earned the Alabama Public Library Standards of Achievement Award at the Gold Level, recognizing excellence in planning, staffing, collections, services, and technology.
