The Menomonie Public Library is the public library for the City of Menomonie and Dunn County, Wisconsin, on the west side of the Chippewa Valley near the University of Wisconsin–Stout. Its distinctive home at 600 Wolske Bay Road was designed by architect John H. Howe — Frank Lloyd Wright's chief draftsman for 27 years — in what Howe called the 'Minnesota Prairie Style'; the site was acquired in 1980 from the Myrtle Werth Medical Corporation, and after nearly a decade of planning the building opened in 1986, with First Lady Barbara Bush and Howe himself present at the September 19, 1986 dedication. The library is fine-free, having eliminated daily overdue fines and forgiven past ones so cost is never a barrier to borrowing. It belongs to the MORE consortium — a shared catalog of the Indianhead Federated Library System (IFLS) — so one card borrows across dozens of member libraries and more than a million items, and it also operates a branch, the Elk Mound Community Library, for the roughly 9,100 cardholders who call Menomonie or Elk Mound their home library.
