About Hudson Area Public Library

The Hudson Area Public Library, located at 700 First Street in Hudson, Wisconsin, traces its roots to 1903 when the community established a public library with the help of an Andrew Carnegie grant. The original Carnegie building opened in 1904 at 304 Locust Street — growing out of efforts by the Ladies Literary Association, founded in 1868. That historic building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. In 2010, the library relocated to its current modern facility to better serve the growing St. Croix Valley community.

Today the Hudson Area Public Library serves approximately 14,000 residents with a collection of over 33,700 physical items and access to 19,000 digital resources. The library features a dedicated History Room preserving local archives and genealogical records. Digital services include Libby/OverDrive and Hoopla for eBooks, audiobooks, music, and film. Weekly story hours, adult education workshops, and community events make this library a true gathering place for the greater Hudson area.
