📖 About Johnson City Public Library
The Johnson City Public Library is the public library of Johnson City, Tennessee, a Washington County city in the state's Tri-Cities region. It began on May 1, 1895, when members of the local Monday Club opened a small subscription library in an upstairs room of the Reeves Building; a 1913 gift of land and money from Judge Samuel Cole Williams, in memory of his son Mayne Williams, led to the Mayne Williams Public Library that served the city from 1923. The current downtown building at 100 West Millard Street, overlooking King Commons Park, opened to the public on August 10, 1999. Today the library is a member of the Organization of Watauga Libraries (OWL) consortium, sharing a catalog with neighboring libraries, and pairs a large collection with public computers, meeting and study rooms, and the local-history Tennessee Room.
