📖 About Pahrump Community Library
Pahrump Community Library has served Nye County, Nevada since its informal beginnings in 1955, when donated books were shelved at the local post office for a community of just 27 families. The library became an official Library District in April 1984 and opened its current 20,000-square-foot building on East Street in January 2001 following a successful 1998 bond vote. In late 2024 the facility underwent a roughly $1 million renovation — replacing all flooring and carpet, repainting throughout, updating restrooms, installing new lighting, adding new furniture and multimedia meeting rooms, and creating a dedicated teen/young-adult reading area. The library reopened June 16, 2025. Today it holds more than 70,000 volumes and serves not only Pahrump but outlying Nye County communities including Amargosa Valley, Shoshone, and Tecopa, acting as the primary public library anchor for a vast swath of desert Nevada near Death Valley.

The library closed in late November 2024 for its first major overhaul in roughly 24 years and reopened June 16, 2025. The approximately $1 million project replaced all flooring and carpet, repainted every room, renovated both restrooms, installed new lighting (which uncovered exposed live wiring that was corrected), brought in new furnishings, added multimedia systems to meeting rooms, and redesigned the children's section and a new teen/young-adult reading nook. The building is fully open at normal hours.
