📖 About Hubbard Free Library
The Hubbard Free Library is the public library of Hallowell, a small Kennebec County city of roughly 2,500 people on the west bank of the Kennebec River just south of Augusta, Maine's state capital. Hallowell's brick-lined downtown — one of the best-preserved nineteenth-century commercial streets in New England — gives the city a distinctive character, and the Hubbard Free Library has long been a community anchor within it. The library is an independent free library association, not a municipal department, and relies on a mix of city appropriation, private donations and Friends of the Library support. Its collection includes adult and children's books, audiobooks, and videos, and the library participates in interlibrary loan delivery so patrons can request materials from throughout Maine.
