📖 About Marshall Public Library
The Marshall Public Library is the municipal public library of Pocatello, the seat of Bannock County in southeastern Idaho, and has served the community since 1907. Its oldest section is the Pocatello Carnegie Library, a Palladian-style building whose cornerstone was laid on October 16, 1907 with a grant from Andrew Carnegie — Pocatello's first piece of classically inspired architecture. A later expansion, funded in part by a gift from Wendell and Barbara Marshall, gave the library its current name and its modern wing; a south-side atrium now joins the original Carnegie structure to the newer building. Owned and operated by the City of Pocatello, the library holds more than 160,000 books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and newspapers, reports that roughly 85 percent of area residents hold a library card, and connects patrons to statewide digital collections through Libraries Linking Idaho (LiLI).

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Marshall Public Library really an old Carnegie library?
Yes — in part. The oldest section is the 1907 Pocatello Carnegie Library, whose cornerstone was laid on October 16, 1907 with a grant from Andrew Carnegie and which was the city's first classically inspired building. A later expansion, funded partly by a gift from Wendell and Barbara Marshall, added a modern wing and gave the library its current name. A south-side atrium now connects the original Carnegie structure to the newer building.
Who were the Marshalls the library is named for?
The library is named in honor of Wendell and Barbara Marshall, whose gift helped fund the expansion that was joined to the historic 1907 Carnegie building. The combined Carnegie-plus-expansion facility became the Marshall Public Library that serves Pocatello today at 113 South Garfield Avenue.
Which nights is the library open late, and is it open on Sundays?
The library stays open until 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday it runs 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and it is closed on Sundays. During December the library shortens its weekday hours to 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
