📖 About American Canyon Library
The American Canyon Library is the southernmost branch of the Napa County Library system, serving the gateway city to California wine country. The branch opened on August 14, 2012, inside the adaptively reused Crawford Building — a 1970s-era bank turned city hall, complete with a drive-up teller window and a staff workroom that still occupies the original bank vault. In late 2025, Napa County invested $119,000 in a remodel by Pridex Construction Group, refreshing interiors, signage and furniture; the library celebrated its reopening with a community party on January 31, 2026. Operating across approximately 5,400 square feet, the branch serves a fast-growing community of more than 21,000 residents — a city that was itself incorporated only in 1992, making both the city and its library relatively young chapters in Napa County's long history.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Is the American Canyon Library a Napa County Library branch — and can I use my card at other branches?
Yes. American Canyon Library is one of four public branches in the Napa County Library system, alongside Napa Main, Yountville and Calistoga. A single card works at all branches and unlocks the shared catalog, LINK+ interlibrary loans, Libby, hoopla and Kanopy.
Why does the library keep different hours on Wednesdays?
The Wednesday noon–8pm shift was designed for commuters returning from the Bay Area along Highway 29 — American Canyon sits at the southern tip of Napa County at the gateway to wine country. All other open days run 10am–6pm; the library is closed Sundays.
The building used to be a bank — what's still left of that history inside?
Quite a bit. The Crawford Building was built in the 1970s as a bank, then served as American Canyon City Hall before the library moved in on August 14, 2012. The drive-up teller window is still visible on the exterior, and the staff workroom occupies the original bank vault. A January 2026 renovation refreshed interiors and furniture while preserving the community-loved rainbow feature wall.
Can I access Napa Valley and local history resources through the library?
Yes. The Napa County Library system provides the full Napa County Newspaper Archive (including the American Canyon Eagle), the Napa Valley Register back to 2001, digital Sanborn fire-insurance maps for California and the San Francisco Chronicle archive from 1869 to present — all free with your library card.
