📖 About Alger Public Library
Alger Public Library serves all residents of the Upper Scioto Valley School District, covering the villages of Alger, Roundhead, and McGuffey in Hardin County, Ohio. The library's history stretches to the late 1930s, when it was organized and housed in the old Alger School; regular board meetings began in 1943 and the first professional librarian was hired the following year. A dedicated building at the corner of Wagner and Main was constructed in September 1966 on a lot the county helped purchase, and a West Room addition in 1990 doubled the library's floor space. As a member of the SEO Library Consortium, Alger's cardholders can borrow from the combined collections of 100 southeastern and north-central Ohio libraries. The village itself — named for Civil War veteran and Michigan Governor Russell A. Alger — was incorporated in 1896 and counts about 837 residents.
