Cherrydale Library

Cherrydale Library traces its roots to 1923, when the League of Women's Voters and the local Patrons League joined forces to bring library service to north Arlington's earliest streetcar suburb. The branch today serves a neighborhood that made civil-rights history when Cherrydale became the site of lunch-counter sit-ins in June 1960 that helped desegregate Arlington County.

📖 About Cherrydale Library

Founded in 1923 by the League of Women's Voters and the Patrons League, Cherrydale Library is one of Arlington Public Library's founding branches. It sits in Cherrydale, a National Register of Historic Places neighborhood that developed as a streetcar suburb in the early 1900s and became a landmark in Virginia civil rights history — Stratford Junior High, just down the road, was the first school in Virginia to desegregate in 1959. The library continues to serve the tight-knit north Arlington community with collections, programs, and computer access.
