<p>Westover Library was approved in 1947 and opened shortly after to serve the Westover neighborhood, a 1939–1948 planned residential community now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Following years of closure, the original 1938 Walter Reed Elementary School shell was preserved during a $21.6 million renovation and reopened on October 31, 2009, as a 61,000-square-foot facility housing the library alongside public preschool programs. Open seven days a week, the modern glass-and-brick branch serves west Arlington families with circulating collections, computers, and a full calendar of events.</p>
