📖 About Trapper Creek Public Library
The Trapper Creek Public Library is one of five Matanuska-Susitna Borough public libraries, serving the community that stretches along the Parks Highway from roughly Mile 114 to the foothills of the Alaska Range. Trapper Creek itself traces its name to the Rabidoux brothers — Oliver and Noah — who trapped the area in the early twentieth century; a 1905 gold strike drew miners to the Cache Creek district, and the Alaska Railroad's 1914 construction opened a route north. The library sits at 8901 East Devonshire Drive and belongs to the Alaska Library Catalog (ALC), meaning a single library card unlocks the statewide network. With approximately 425 residents spread across a large geographic footprint, the library plays an outsized role in the community: it provides public notary services, test proctoring, absentee voting assistance, IRS and Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend form distribution, and conference room access — services that would otherwise require a long drive to Palmer or Wasilla. Cardholders also get free access to the Alaska Digital Library for eBooks and audiobooks, and the library provides free Wi-Fi with the password MSBfree!
