📖 About Denville Free Public Library
The Denville Free Public Library's roots go back to 1877, when the Union Sabbath School Library served what was then a small farming and resort community. In 1923 the township's Parent-Teacher Association established a proper library in the cloakroom of the Main Street school and affiliated with the Morris County Free Library, naming it the Denville Memorial Library. The library moved to a storefront on Broadway in 1935, again to Diamond Spring Road in 1952, and was formally municipalized in 1967. Its current purpose-built building at 121 Diamond Spring Road opened in 1985. Today the library holds more than 41,000 volumes, circulates nearly 160,000 items per year, and employs 23 staff members. It belongs to MAIN (Morris Automated Information Network), a shared-services consortium of 49 northern New Jersey public libraries, giving Denville cardholders reciprocal borrowing and access to the statewide JerseyClicks database package. The library's Pop-Up Library program extends its reach beyond the building, bringing collections and programming to senior residences at St. Francis, The Oaks and Cook's Pond Village. In 2018 The Daily Record named it one of Morris County's best libraries.
