📖 About Jefferson Township Public Library
The roots of the Jefferson Township Public Library trace to the Great Depression, when Violet Riker enlisted Milton PTA members to assemble books for a "library station in the hallway of the White Building." For nearly two decades the collection moved through a series of borrowed spaces — including Riker's own home on Berkshire Valley Road — before the Friends of the Library organization formed in 1959 and the library settled into a Dover-Milton Road farmhouse in 1960. On September 20, 1980, the current building at 1031 Weldon Road was officially dedicated, with the main meeting room named the Violet Riker Meeting Room in her honor. Today the library is a member of the Main Library Alliance (MAIN), a consortium of more than 35 Morris County–area libraries, giving Jefferson Township cardholders shared access to the MAIN catalog and interlibrary loan.
