📖 About Ozark Regional Library — Ironton Branch
Ironton's public library opened in 1932, organized by the local Arcadia Valley Rotary Club, and in 1934 the Works Progress Administration funded a librarian for a year to help it grow. The library's reach expanded dramatically in July 1947 when Bollinger, Crawford, Iron, and Madison Counties signed a contract to create the state's first regional library system. Officially named the Ozark Regional Library in January 1948, the system hired Frances Moose as its first Regional Librarian on July 1, 1948, and immediately launched bookmobile service with two vehicles. Ironton has been the regional headquarters since the system's founding, occupying various locations over the decades — including the Eidson Realty Building in 1949 and a purpose-built facility in 1984. In 2025 the library rejoined the Missouri Evergreen consortium, giving Iron and Madison County cardholders access to a statewide shared catalog. Today the Ironton branch offers passport application services by appointment and free notary services for cardholders.
