📖 About Charlotte Community Library
Charlotte Community Library has served Eaton County's seat since November 19, 1894, when the Common Council levied a tax to create a free public library and reading room. An Andrew Carnegie grant funded a permanent brick building at 200 N. Cochran in 1903, giving Charlotte one of the classic Carnegie libraries of the era. In 1986 the Charlotte Library Project, Inc. formed to find more space, and after major renovations on a former Felpausch Grocery Store building, the library opened its current facility at 226 South Bostwick Street in September 1994 — exactly a century after its founding. Today the library holds a strong local history collection, the Spartan Room available for community meetings, and three staff members who are commissioned notary publics. It belongs to Michigan Electronic Library (MeL) and offers Libby, hoopla, and Mango Languages alongside its physical collection.
