The Orange County Public Library anchors a county shaped by early American history — Orange County was established in 1734 and is home to Montpelier, the estate where President James Madison and First Lady Dolley Madison lived and are buried. The library system operates three branches: the main library on Madison Road in Orange, the Gordonsville Branch at 319 N. Main Street, and the Wilderness Branch at 6421 Flat Run Road in Locust Grove, near the Wilderness Battlefield where the 1864 Battle of the Wilderness was fought. All three branches offer free public computers, Wi-Fi, and programming for children, teens, and adults. The main library also provides free notary services Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and access to the Learning Express database for career and test preparation. The Friends of the Library chapters and the Orange County Library Foundation support expanded programming throughout the year.
