📖 About Texarkana Public Library
The Texarkana Public Library opened in 1925 in a house at 7th Street and State Line Avenue, from the beginning straddling the Arkansas–Texas border to serve one combined community. A Georgian-style red brick building on donated James Bowie City Park land opened in January 1952, funded by an $80,000 Texas bond and, after 1951 legislation, an Arkansas one-mill tax that made the library fully accessible to all residents without membership fees. The library moved to its present location on W. 3rd Street in 1979. In 2026 — the year after its centennial — the library continues to serve Miller County, Arkansas and Bowie County, Texas residents with a collection of more than 100,000 books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs, and digital titles. The library also founded Texarkana's Literacy Council in 1986 and continues to support community learning through technology grants and programs.
