📖 About Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center
The Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center anchors the Broadmoor neighborhood at the corner of Napoleon Avenue and South Broad Street. Broadmoor sits at one of the lowest points in New Orleans and flooded severely during Hurricane Katrina, and the earlier branch here was demolished afterward. The current building, designed by the New Orleans firm Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, opened on March 17, 2012, raised above the base flood elevation on footings so it can weather future storms. It is named for Rosa Freeman Keller (1911–1998), a civil rights advocate who became the first woman on the New Orleans Public Library board and pushed to integrate the city's libraries. Beyond the book stacks, it functions as a true community center, with meeting and program space, a technology center, and a courtyard at its core, and its design won a 2013 AIA New Orleans Honor Award. As of 2026 the branch is temporarily closed for building repairs, so patrons should check nolalibrary.org for its reopening and use a nearby New Orleans Public Library location in the meantime.
