📖 About Memorial Branch Library
The Memorial Branch Library opened in 1981 on land that was formerly city parkland. Community advocacy led to the branch being named in memory of San Antonio's war dead rather than the name first proposed for it. The building was renovated and expanded in 1995 and today holds roughly 53,000 items across books, videos, DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks. It sits on Culebra Road directly across from St. Mary's University and serves many students from the Edgewood and San Antonio independent school districts. A designated Freedom of Expression Area is located on the west side of the library grounds.
