📖 About Woodstock Library

Library service in Woodstock dates to 1909, when it began as one of 15 deposit stations offering a small shared collection; it grew into a sub-branch in 1911 and a full branch with reference services by 1917. In 1960 the library moved from rented storefronts into a dedicated building on SE 49th Avenue, and the current 7,500-square-foot facility opened in 2000, earning a national design honor from the American Institute of Architects and the American Library Association. The branch closed on March 18, 2025, for a smaller-scale refresh — part of the 2020 bond's Refresh projects covering 11 libraries — and reopened to the public on September 5, 2025. The updates brought new furniture, fresh paint and carpeting, a dedicated area for teens and tweens, and a Tech Bar with a copier, scanner, and computers. It remains a full-service neighborhood branch in the heart of Southeast Portland's Woodstock district.
