📖 About Roger W. Woodbury Branch Library

The Roger W. Woodbury Branch opened on July 9, 1913, as one of four Denver branches built with an additional $80,000 gift from Andrew Carnegie. It is named for Roger Williams Woodbury, a businessman, journalist, and banker who served as Denver's first president of the Chamber of Commerce. Designed in a Florentine Renaissance Revival style, the building is finished in light-colored brick with a tile roof in reds and gunmetal, and its arched entrance and windows are dressed in richly ornamented terra cotta. Inside, exposed wood roof trusses, birch furnishings, and fireplaces with reading benches carry the original 1913 character. The branch was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Denver landmark, and a 2009 restoration funded through the 2007 Better Denver Bond preserved its historic detailing. Today it anchors the Highland and Sunnyside neighborhoods with a dedicated parking lot and street-level access.
