Sun Prairie Public Library was founded in 1901, when community members in the old City Hall assembled 208 books as a public collection — making it one of Dane County's oldest library institutions. Through community effort and dedication, the library grew from those humble origins to a collection of nearly 150,000 physical items at its current location on Linnerud Drive. Sun Prairie is Dane County's fastest-growing city, and the library has expanded to match: an ongoing expansion and renovation project will add capacity and services for thousands of new residents. The library is a member of the South Central Library System (SCLS) and the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium (WPLC), providing cardholders access to millions of items via the shared Linkcat catalog and statewide digital services including BadgerLink, Wisconsin's Digital Library (Libby/OverDrive), Kanopy film streaming, TumbleBooks for children and Transparent Language online courses.
