📖 About Reedsburg Public Library
Reedsburg Public Library serves the city of Reedsburg and the surrounding Sauk County community in south-central Wisconsin. The library's story begins in 1898, when the local Women's Club invited a Wisconsin Library Commission representative to spark interest in a public library; the first library opened May 8, 1899 in a room at the corner of Main and S. Park Streets. In January 1911 Andrew Carnegie agreed to grant $10,000 to erect a free public library building, and the new Carnegie building — designed by Madison architects Claude and Starck (who also designed libraries for Baraboo, Jefferson, Wisconsin Dells and Darlington) — opened on January 1, 1912 with 3,490 volumes, 14,180 in annual circulation, and 1,668 registered borrowers. The current library on Vine Street is a member of the South Central Library System (SCLS) and its 54-library LINKcat shared catalog. The Carnegie building, just across the street, continues to house the library's archive collection in the South Wing of the City Hall Complex at 134 S. Locust St.
