The Oak Creek Public Library has served this rapidly growing Milwaukee County suburb since its grand opening on November 6, 1972 — the result of a community need study launched in July 1967 and a founding Friends group formed in March 1969. For over four decades the library operated at 8620 S. Howell Avenue before the Common Council voted in April 2012 to co-locate a new library with City Hall. After groundbreaking in May 2014, the Oak Creek Civic Center opened at Drexel Town Square on October 19, 2015, with a grand opening celebration on December 12, 2015. The modern facility at 8040 S. 6th Street gives patrons expansive study rooms, a Library of Things collection, and access to the statewide Wisconsin Public Library Consortium (WPLC) catalog, which unlocks digital content from Libby, Consumer Reports, and more.
