📖 About Mukwonago Community Library
The Mukwonago Community Library has served Waukesha County readers continuously since 1883, when interested residents established a Library and Reading Room in the Unitarian and Universalist Church. Over the following century it moved through the village museum, two jail cells in the Village Hall (where it spent 40 years), and a house donated by Floyd and Jessie McKenzie in 1961 — honored with the name 'Floyd and Jessie McKenzie Public Library.' The current building opened on Washington Avenue in 1996 and was expanded in 2012, when groundbreaking occurred April 11, 2011, with the library temporarily relocating to an old roller rink on Main Street during construction. Today the library is a member of the Bridges Library System and offers a modern makerspace called MetaSpace 511 — where patrons can create custom t-shirts and personalized gifts with a library card — alongside The Thingery (Library of Things), a Seed Library for home gardeners, a Memory Lab for digitizing personal media, and homebound delivery for patrons with mobility needs.
