The Hartland Free Library was established on August 23, 1897, when the Hartland Village Board resolved to create a free public library for the Village of Hartland. Myron Warren, son of village founder Stephen Warren, was elected the first president of the library board. Today the library at 110 East Park Avenue sits adjacent to Nixon Park and holds a collection of 65,426 print volumes and access to over 170,000 eBooks, with annual circulation exceeding 196,000 transactions. As a member of the Bridges Library System — a consortium of 24 public libraries in Waukesha and Jefferson counties established in 1981 — a Hartland card gives borrowing privileges at any member location and access to shared digital resources including Wisconsin's Digital Library (Libby) and BadgerLink statewide databases.
