📖 About Chambers County Library System — Anahuac Branch
The Chambers County Library System traces its roots to 1951, when more than 1,000 donated books and a $10,000 budget launched the county's first public library in Anahuac — then housed in the historic Thomas Jefferson Chambers Home. Ruby Jordan served as the first County Librarian. A purpose-built structure followed in 1958, and in 1992 a 6,000-square-foot addition expanded capacity to meet the needs of a growing community. Today the Anahuac branch holds over 30,000 items and anchors a three-branch system alongside the Juanita Hargraves Memorial Branch in Winnie and the Sam & Carmena Goss Memorial Branch in Mont Belvieu. The system also maintains an extensive local history collection documenting Chambers County's development from its cattle-ranching and rice-farming heritage through the modern petrochemical era along the upper Texas Gulf Coast.
