📖 About Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library
Founded on September 12, 1894, in a single courthouse room under Judge C. W. Tyler's offices, the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library has served the region for more than 130 years — one of Tennessee's longest-running public libraries. After moving to free public access in 1923 and through several downtown locations, the library relocated in 1995 to its current 74,000-square-foot home in Veterans Plaza on Pageant Lane, where it now anchors cultural life for Clarksville and all of Montgomery County. The Main Library holds the Brown Harvey, Sr. Genealogy Room, recognized as one of Tennessee's largest genealogy collections, with microfilm, historical newspapers, death certificates, and online databases spanning the region and neighboring states. In September 2025 the system opened its first branch — the North Branch at 435 Jordan Road — adding a dedicated Makerspace, expanded youth areas, and outdoor programming space. The library has earned Gold Level status in the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program and has partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library since 2005, mailing free monthly books to children birth through age 5 in Montgomery County.
