The Jane Stern Dorado Community Library (JSDCL) is an independent, nonprofit (501(c)(3)) bilingual community library serving the town of Dorado on Puerto Rico's north coast. It began in 1974, when Dorado resident Jane Stern Zagaria — a mother of three who grew up in an Italian immigrant family that leaned on public libraries — organized neighbors and friends to bring free access to books to the community. Today it operates from an 8,125-square-foot space inside Dorado's Luis Munoz Marin municipal government building through a partnership with the municipality. The library keeps a catalog of fiction and nonfiction in both English and Spanish for adults, teens and children, and runs a satellite program that reaches underserved children across several Puerto Rico municipalities.
