The Story of the Library in Cabo Rojo

The library is named in honor of Blanca E. Colberg Rodríguez (born February 11, 1911, in Cabo Rojo), the first woman to serve as mayor of Cabo Rojo, who held the office for sixteen years from 1948 to 1964. In 1965 she was elected as a representative in the Puerto Rico House for the district covering Cabo Rojo, Hormigueros, and rural Mayagüez. Widely remembered as a trailblazing public servant who opened doors for other women, she has the municipality's public library named after her.
