📖 About Bethany Library
The Cedar Mill and Bethany Community Library Association was founded in 1974 by local residents, and its first library opened in 1976 with support from Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS). As the Bethany area of unincorporated Washington County grew rapidly, the association opened a second location — the Bethany Library — in July 2007 at Suite J-8 of the Bethany Village Shopping Center, 15325 NW Central Drive. The library sits at 45.55 N, 122.84 W in the northwestern corner of the Portland metro area, serving a community that straddles the Multnomah-Washington county line. As a WCCLS member, Bethany Library patrons share borrowing privileges across all 16 member libraries in Washington County, and a card also unlocks the system's digital resources including Libby and Kanopy. An adjacent Annex Event Space provides dedicated room for programs and community gatherings. The Cedar Mill & Bethany organization remains community-driven, supported by a Friends group and a nonprofit structure that gives local residents direct ownership over their library.
