On a boulevard named for hometown baseball Hall-of-Famer Carl Hubbell, the Meeker Public Library has served Lincoln County since a group of women founded it at the Meeker Hotel in July 1913. The Meeker Public Library stands at 616 W. Carl Hubbell Boulevard in Meeker, Oklahoma, a Lincoln County town of about 1,200 residents. The library's origins trace to July 1913, when a group of local women met in the Meeker Hotel Parlors to form the town's Woman's Club and establish a public reading room. Citizens voted to maintain the library with public funds at the April 1918 town election, and a formal library board was established on May 6, 1918. The library moved into its current building in 2008 and in 2022 organized its service area as the Meeker Regional Library District. Today it circulates more than 5,200 items annually to a community that includes students at nearby Meeker Schools, and it offers statewide digital access through the Oklahoma Virtual Library. The street address honors Carl Hubbell, the legendary New York Giants left-hander who grew up in Meeker and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947.
