📖 About Tompkins Square Library
Serving Manhattan's Lower East Side since 1904, facing Tompkins Square Park; the branch originally opened in 1887 as the Fifth Street Branch of the Aguilar Free Library before relocating to its current 331 East 10th Street building. As of August 10, 2026 the branch was temporarily closed for building maintenance, expected to reopen in late August 2026. New Teen Center with digital resources and tech equipment; STEAM Discovery Kits to borrow; free English language classes (ESOL and literacy); programs for kids, teens, and adults; computer access and Wi-Fi; fully accessible; no late fines.
