📖 About Eunice Public Library
Eunice was founded in 1908 when homesteader J.N. Carson settled the southeastern corner of New Mexico and named the town for his eldest daughter; the 1928 oil discovery transformed the small farming community into a boomtown whose population reached 5,500 by 1930. The public library was established in 1950 to serve the growing community, initially in a small building on Avenue J before relocating to the Community Center in 1958. In 1980 the library moved to its current address at 1003 Avenue N, gaining a permanent home that has since been expanded twice: a 1986 addition enlarged the collection space, and a 1993 addition incorporated a museum and art room along with a dedicated Southwest Collection of regional history materials. In 2007 the library joined the Estacado Library Information Network (ELIN), connecting Eunice patrons to a shared consortium catalog and online access. The library holds approximately 23,542 volumes and serves a population of around 3,000 Lea County residents.
