Hemingford Public Library is the public library of Hemingford, Nebraska, a village in Box Butte County in the Nebraska Panhandle. Hemingford was first settled by Canadian immigrants in the summer of 1885 and a town company was organized in 1886; Box Butte County itself was carved from Dawes County by public vote on November 2, 1886, taking its name from the striking butte located roughly 12 miles north-northeast of Alliance. The library is housed at 812 Box Butte Avenue and is a member of the Western Library System — the regional cooperative coordinated by the Nebraska Library Commission for western Nebraska. Its collection of more than 10,600 items spans fiction, nonfiction, audiobooks, DVDs and craft materials. The library received a grant from the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation to expand its Nebraska Book Collection, covering subjects for readers of all ages. Cardholders have free access to NebraskAccess statewide databases and to Nebraska OverDrive (Libby) for downloadable e-books and audiobooks.
