Scott City, Missouri was incorporated in 1960 through the merger of Ancell and Fornfelt, two communities that grew up around the construction of the Thebes bridge and the St. Louis, Southwestern Railway in the late 19th century. A third community, Illmo, was incorporated into Scott City in 1980. The city sits at the intersection of Interstate 55 and Missouri Highway K in southeastern Missouri, making it a crossroads community in the bootheel region. Its earliest settlers were Lutheran and Catholic farmers of German descent.
