📖 About Babbitt Public Library

The Babbitt Public Library sits at the heart of the city's municipal campus on South Drive, serving a community built by iron-ore mining in the Superior National Forest wilderness of St. Louis County. It belongs to the Arrowhead Library System, a regional cooperative that grew from a 1964 study committee and formally organized in 1965 to link libraries across northeastern Minnesota's seven counties — geographically the largest public library system in the state. With a collection of 20,398 volumes and annual circulation of 27,135 items, the library punches well above its size: it offers four public computers with color-printing, free outdoor and indoor Wi-Fi, a private meeting room at no charge, and a free home-delivery service for homebound residents within city limits. The space itself reflects the community — patron-assembled quilts hang throughout the building, a fireplace seating area honors community members, and a community-completed jigsaw puzzle (glued and framed) greets visitors near the entrance.
