Winn Parish Library has operated for over 88 years as the educational and cultural anchor of Winn Parish. The main branch at 200 N St. John Street anchors a five-location system, with branches in Atlanta, Calvin, Dodson, and Sikes reaching the most remote corners of the parish. The library's Louisiana History Room holds genealogical materials and local records that draw researchers tracing Winn Parish families — the Winn Genealogical & Historical Association regularly meets here. Cardholders gain instant access to the GreenGold Library consortium's 60,000-plus digital publications and the full Louisiana Digital Library. Free meeting rooms are available by advance reservation at the Winnfield branch. Winn Parish — formed February 24, 1852, and named for Colonel Walter O. Winn — is home to the largest pine forest in Louisiana and the birthplace of three governors: Huey Long, Earl Long, and O. K. Allen.
