Eastgate Branch Library — celebrating its 50th year in 2026 — is the compact neighborhood counterpart to AAPLD's Harnish Drive main library, tucked into the Eastgate shopping area of western Algonquin and freshly renovated with a geothermal heating and cooling system, giving the McHenry County community a modern, sustainable library space open seven days a week.

📖 About Eastgate Branch Library
<p>Eastgate Branch Library at 115 Eastgate Drive is the second location of the Algonquin Area Public Library District (AAPLD), which has served residents of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Cary, Illinois since 1921. The branch opened in 1976 as a neighborhood extension of what was then a much smaller district, and it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2026 following a major renovation that added a geothermal heating and cooling system and modernized both levels of the facility. Eastgate holds collections of books, audiobooks, DVDs, and digital resources alongside the main library at 2600 Harnish Drive. AAPLD has been nationally recognized for innovation — it was among the first U.S. libraries to circulate dedicated e-book readers (1999), installed RFID at both locations (2001), and earned three-star status from <em>Library Journal</em> in 2011. Cardholders access the Illinois Reliable Information Sources (IRIS) statewide database program and the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) for interlibrary loan.</p>
